EXP Podcast #256: Gift Giving and More GoTY

It's the last podcast of 2013 and it just so happens to fall on Christmas Day. In the spirit of giving, Hanah gives up some of her time to drop by and talk about gifts in games and some of the games that received her attention this past year. Presents, pirates, and pyromaniacs: we cover all this and more as we make plans for our cube-shaped utopia.

  1. "Hey, Jeremy. What do you want for Christmas/your birthday--and don't say video games!"

    It's
the same caveat every time. The simple fact that I listen to your
podcast should give a fair idea of my investment in gaming. Ask me what
game I want, I can name you a dozen right now. Failing that, Microsoft
Points or the ilk are pretty much the perfect gift. But everyone in my
life seems to have come to an unspoken agreement to avoid anything of the sort.

    Yes,
    I can usually--with effort--provide suggestions for other things I
might enjoy. They're usually more expensive, or harder to get, which is probably why I never got it for myself. It seems to me it would be easier from both sides to go the easy route.

So why that exception? I never tell my father not to ask for photography equipment, or my wife not to ask for music or concert tickets, or my nephews not to ask for shoes. Now I don't understand why--of all things--they're asking for shoes to begin with. Does that matter? It's a gift. It makes THEM happy. And isn't that the entire point?
