We are back again with another visit the zombie-infested South. This week on the EXP Podcast, Scott and I discuss episodes 3 and 4 of The Walking Dead. This podcast jumps right into spoilers, so if you are looking for more general insight into how the series tells its story, check out last week's podcast.

As always, we encourage you to leave your thoughts and your own play experiences in the comments below. Of all the episodes of The Walking Dead, episode 4 might reveal the most about one's character and approach to surviving the apocalypse. Let us know how you shaped Lee's decisions.

  1. Wow, fascinating! I was a bit disappointed in episode 4 until I listened to you guys and realized how many things could have gone differently.

    MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD

I was expecting Crawford to have someone analogous to The Governor from the comics, so there was no. way. in. hell. I was taking Clementine with me. She stayed behind and killed a walker that broke into the house like it was no big deal.

Molly died in my game not through any decisions I made, but because I messed up the shooting sequence. I felt like that was unfair. One-chance action sequences are not what this game is about.

I don't think our group took a vote about the boat. I told Kenny I'd help him kick Ben's ass later, but now wasn't the time, and then Brie was attacked. Then I let Ben die because, well, duh. But then Kenny was all, "Good job killing that jerk Ben!" in front of Clem, which I didn't appreciate.

The thing that really bothered me was that there was no option to look for Clem's parents. My Lee kept telling her we would for 3 episodes, and now all of a sudden the game has made him a liar. I don't blame her for running off. What right does Lee have to keep her from trying? They're already in the right city! And it's not like anybody else has a good long-term plan.

I told everyone about the bite because Lee is hosed. The best I can hope for is that someone else saves the day. Kenny, Christa, and Omid all came along with no hesitations, which was reassuring. I was afraid Kenny would freak out, but he took it surprisingly well. I've had his back most of the time, but not always.

Overall, I wasn't thrilled with the direction episode 4 took, but the first half was great, especially the attic scene. I'm still very much looking forward to the finale.

  2. That's amazing how different things were. I would have loved to see Clem take out that walker by herself; that sounds great.

I think you raise a good point about the inability to search for Clem's parents. Like you say, what do they have to lose? Then again, Clem doesn't know that Lee is aware that there is actually someone talking to her over the radio. I'll be interested in how that plays out.

    Can't wait till next month!

  3. these are great, I have only just listened to it because I had just finished episode 4 last night and its such a relief to hear people talk about their decisions. no one I know has played it past episode 1 so far so I feel totally alone in my story and feel like I really need to justify my awful decisions to someone who will understand, but I can't for fear of spoiling the experience for my friends in the future, so hearing people talk about why they say, killed the child in the attic etc... is a big load of my mind while playing. kind of video game counselling haha.

I too am with the 6% lone wolfing it at the end for fear of endangering the party (my bite, my problem now) and after you mentioned lee might turn while on his own I have had a terrible realisation for the first time in this game that my choices may have lead me to ultimately fail the game and get a massivley depressing but quite shockingly real ending. which in a way, is awesome! this game has taken my on such a journey only to potentially smack you in the face with stark reality at the end. this is the best game I have ever played.

  4. What? How have those people you know stopped after episode 1? You're clearly hanging out with the wrong people. :)

I feel you about the possibility (or perhaps inevitability?) of a depressing ending. So few games present you with situations where there is literally no "good" choice. The stress is enjoyable!
